But the Kingdom of León was also a model as regards the key issues of the Middle Ages, such as legislation, culture or art, in addition to being a pioneer in many of these aspects. For example, the Charter of León, issued in 1017, was a model example for the various populations. In addition, León was the first Christian Kingdom to mint gold coins and, perhaps most relevantly, it was in León that the first Curia Plena or Cortes was held, in the year 1188.
